Title:  Dental Implant Education…Are We Falling Behind?

Synopsis: Predoctoral implant education is lagging behind real world dental practice and technology.  As a result, the concept of the restorative dentist as leader of the implant team is not being adequately cultivated. This presentation will explore the need for a comprehensive dental implant curriculum in every United States dental school that ensures participation for every student.  Specifically, the restoration of single tooth implants and implant supported overdentures must be incorporated into institutional competencies.  The concept and development of a comprehensive implant program that begins in the second year, and continues to clinical practice for the remaining two years will be presented.

Course Objectives:  Review the state of predoctoral implant education in the United States Describe a model for a successful predoctoral dental implant curriculum Share preliminary data from the UIC Predoctoral Implant Program
