Title:  The Maxillary Implant Overdenture: An Evidence-based Review

Synopsis:  There is a paucity of evidence-based guidelines for the design and selection of the maxillary implant overdenture treatment modality. Reports of mean incidence of high implant failure coupled with high number of complications characterize the inherent risk of this prosthetic alternative. The number, length, distribution of implants, as well as the indications for splinted versus unsplinted anchorage systems for palateless design, will be discussed given available research. Studies comparing patient satisfaction for the maxillary implant overdenture, fixed complete denture, and conventional denture will also be reviewed.

Course Objectives:

What are the risk factors for maxillary implant overdentures?

How does a rigid anchorage system design affect eht implant survival and maintenance of maxillary implant overdentures?

What are the indications for a maxillary implant overdenture?
