Abstract:

Georgia Regents University (GRU), formerly Georgia Health Sciences University, is a pioneer in the concept of Patient -and Family-Centered Care, an approach that removes the barriers to having collaborative partnerships between healthcare providers, patients and families. GRU?s PFCC journey began in 1993 with the construction of the Children?s Medical Center. The GRU Center for Patient- and Family-Centered Care was founded in 2004 to promote PFCC research, scholarship, and instruction as well as institutionalize PFCC principles throughout the organization. GRU cultivates a robust volunteer patient advisor program with over 250 active patient advisors, one of the largest in the country.

When planning began for the new College of Dental Medicine (CDM), a Patient Advisory Board was established to involve patients in the design of the new facility. This presentation will focus on the CDM?s PFCC journey including design of the new dental school, implementation of PFCC in the pre-doctoral curriculum, and involvement of advisors in improving processes in the CDM.
