Title: The Overdenture: Haven or Honey Trap
Synopsis: Since the mid 19th century some 3,000 publications have attested to the merits of overdentures. The advent of osseointegration techniques has tipped the therapeutic balance further still as it is perceived that titanium root analogues are less vulnerable than their natural counterparts. This presentation will highlight overdenture applications today mindful of the pitfalls awaiting the unwary.
Course Objectives:
1. To highlight the rightful place of overdentures in the prosthodontist's armamentarium.
2. To warn of common overdenture pitfalls.
3. To provide clinical guidance with overdenture construction.
Bio: Dr. Preiskel is in specialty private practice, visiting Professor GKT Institute where he founded the dental implant program. He was the first President of The International College of Prosthodontists, the only non-American President of the American Prosthodontic Society, founding co-editor of the International Journal of Prosthodontics, Chairman of its Board, Past President of the American Dental Society of London, the British Dental Association (Metropolitan Branch), the London Dental Study Club and Chaired the International Prosthodontic Symposium 1982. The Greater New York Academy of Prosthodontics appointed him 'Distinguished Lecturer of the Year 2008'. He is author of numerous textbooks, scientific articles, the recipient of prestigious Prosthodontic awards and active in research, teaching and practice.
